Military Moves To Oust Frondizi

(Rec. 11.20 p.m.) BUENOS AIRES, June 23. Argentina’s Government crisis appeared near a climax today as a move grew among the military leaders to oust President Arturo Frondizi in spite of his cabinet’s resignation, according to the American Associated Press.

Tension was heightened by President Frondizi’s refusal to accept the resignations of his Ministers of War, the Navy and the Air Force, the chief targets of the rebellious officers.

Open threats were voiced against the Frondizi regime by his military opponents. They are reported to feel they are strong enough to force the embattled President out unless he meets their demands for sweeping changes in his Government and policies. Leaders of the clique talked openly of installing a military junta to replace the President, who was a landslide victor 16 months ago in Argentina’s first free election in more than a decade.

The Government suddenly disclosed that the entire Cabinet presented its resignation along with the presidents of the Central Bank

and other official banking institutions.

The President’s apparent truce with the discontented military men last week-end was apparently broken today as the officers pressed for drastic changes in his Government’s officials and policies. The rebellious military accused th 14-months-old Administration of failing to fulfill its many promises of the electoral campaign and of permitting supporters of the former dictator Juan Peron, Leftists and some Communists to infiltrate the Government.
