Kaiapoi Calls To Be Resumed Next Week

After being in dock for its annual inspection and overhaul, the Paroto is expected to be ready for service at the end of this week and is scheduled to call at Kaiapoi again next week. This will be the vessel’s first visit to Kaiapoi since running aground on a sand bank n,ear the mouth of the Waimakariri river early in May, after which she remained in port at Kaiapoi until near the end of that month. The other ship engaged on the Wellington-Kaiapoi service, the Ranginui. completed quick turn round earlier this week. The Ranginui arrived in port at Kaiapoi on Sunday. Loading began on Monday morning and was completed in less than one and a half working days so that the vessel was able to sail again on the tide before midday on Tuesday, with a full cargo on board.
