RADIO WARNING TO SHIPPING

Craft Drifting In Pegasus Bay

A small craft was sighted drifting 24 miles off Godley Head early yesterday morning by the coastal vessel Holmlea. So far it has not been identified, but it may be a punt owned by the Railways Department which was lost last week-end when the Waimakariri river was in flood. The punt had been used in the work of demolishing the old railway bridge at Stewart’s Gully. Shipping was warned by radio yesterday to keep clear of the craft, which might be dangerous to small vessels.
