TROTTING Difference Between Earnings Of Horses

Although there is only one second between the two-mile assessments of Twinkle Hall and Blue Emperor, which fought out the finish of the Williams Handicap at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s winter meeting at Addington on Saturda/y, there is a difference of £ 1705 between their earnings.

Twinkle Hall has had eight v.ins and five placings in a comparatively brief race career and she is on a 4min 27sec mark for two miles. Blue Emperor has had 61 starts for eight wins and 17 placings and he is on a 4min 26sec mark for two miles. Both horses are on the same marks over other distances.

Twinkle Hall’s win on Saturday advanced Tier, earnings to £2840, of which £2250 has been won this

season. Blue Emperor’s placing was worth £ 180 and this advanced his earnings to £4545, of which £3046 has been won from J. D. Eittdn’s stables this term.

Both horses require two wins over a distance to graduate to New Zealand Cup class, and unless Twinkle Hall records a large number of placings. she is unlikely to equal the earnings of Blue Emperor so long as they remain on comparative marks. Both Blue Emperor and Twinkle Hall have shown their best form over sprint or middle distances. Their efforts in recent months have been features of the racing in the intermediate classes. Seldom have they paced bad. races and on more than one occasion luck has been against them. Twinkle Hall and Blue Emperor will both race at the national meeting at Addington in August if present plans are followed. Twihkle Hall will remain in Canterbury with V. Leeming. Outstanding Record Twinkle Hall did not begin racing until about 18 months ago when she won at Tapanui. She won at three of her first four starts, but her form then tailed off. She started this season with a win at Invercargill in November, but until brought north to Canterbury last month her subsequent form was only fair. The Dillon Hall mare began with a win at Washdyke and a week later she was successful at the Canterbury Park club’s winter meeting. After failing on the first day at Hutt Park, she was successful over 10 furlongs on a heavy track two days later. Those three wins were gained on heavy tracks and with firm footing at Addington on Saturday her chances were not so highly regarded. She became badly pocketed for most of the race, but Cameron showed skill in working her clear before the straight entrance. She responded in grand style to wear down Blue Emperor and beat him by a head. If she comes up as well next season, she should not be troubled to extend her fine record.

Twinkle Hall is a six-year-old mare by Dillon Hall from Kelvin Lass, a U. Scott mare which left another useful performer in Ronella to the same sire. Twinkle Hall’s record is:— Age Starts Wins Placings Stakes

Blue Emperor is raced by Mr J. Malloch, of Invercargill, who enjoyed considerable success ,a few years ago with Blue Mifet, holder of the world record of 3min ,3}sec for one mile and a half. He is a six-year-old gelding by Red Emperor (Light BrigadeAirflow) from the Dillon Hall mare, Blue Heaven, which is closely related to Blue Mist, Blue Horizon, Blue Mountain Queen and other winners.

When first he joined- J. D. Litton’s team Blue Emperor did not give the impression that he would win his way very far through the classes However, he seems to have improved with racing and his recent efforts have been of a high standard. He was far from disgraced at Addington as he was three out for- the major part of the race. He looked a winner when he raced clear inside the furlong, but he came to the end of his run in the last few strides and went under to Twinkle Hall. Blue Emperor has raced most consistently this season and he has weighed in in one out of every two appearances. He might be troubled over two miles against the stiff opposition he will meet from now on, but he has fought on so strongly over 13 furlongs after little in his favour that it might not be beyond him in the spring. Blue Emperor’s record is:— Age Starts Wins Placings Stakes
