INQUIRIES AT ADDINGTON
After the New Zealand Trotting Stakes an objection was lodged against second and third placings being awarded to Ahumai and Kennoway respectively on the grounds of breaking short of the line. It was decided to relegate Ahumai to third and Kennoway to fourth and to promote the fourth horse, Wairau King, to second.
No action was taken against W. R. Butt and . C. M. Laing, the drivers of Ahumai and Kennoway respectively. After the Williams Handicap R. Young, driver of Fourth Edition, was questioned about his horse breaking and checking Zany and Bon Ton. It was found that Fourth Edition broke without interference. No further action was taken.
After the Reta Peter Handicap an objection was lodged against fourth place being awarded to Medetta on the grounds of galloping. It. was decided to relegate Medetta to fifth and promote Indiana to fourth. No action was taken against C. R. Berkett, the driver of Medetta.
Murdered Five Children.—A plumber, Gerrit Schaeffer, and his German-born wife, Lina, were sent to gaol for six years in Rotterdam today for the murder of five of their children. The Court said the light sentence was given because it believed something might yet be salvaged of the family life, and because five of the Schaeffer children were still living.—Rotterdam, June 12.
