TROTTING TWINKLE HALL WINS AGAIN

Williams Handicap At Addington

Two Invercargill-owned pacers in Twinkle Hall and Blue Emperor, both of which were at good odds, fought out a keen finish to the Williams Handicap at Addington on Saturday, Twinkle Hall winning by a head. The Williams Handicap was the main event and first leg of the T.A.B. double. Twinkle Hall was badly placed on the rails for most of the race, but her young owner-driver, R. M. Cameron, had her in the clear but wide racing to the straight. She gave Blue Emperor a good start from, the furlong post, but she responded gamely and got up to win in the last few strides.

Twinkle Hall has now won five races this season, four of them being from her last five starts. In spite of her good form, she started the 9 9 favourite on Saturday and paid £l9 12s 6d for a win. Her long price was probably due to the fact that her best form had been shown on rainaffected tracks and the going on Saturday was hard.

Apart from Seafield Lad, the favourite which did not get a run in the straight, no excuses could be offered for the horses to finish behind the first two. The second leg of this double, the Monte Carlo Handicap, was won by the 7'B favourite. Omega, which paid £l3 18s 6d for a win. The Twinkle' Hall-Omega doubles combination returned £517 19s 6d for £l.

Ordeal, one of the best trotters in her class, was allowed to pay a false win dividend of £lO 2s in the Reta Peter Handicap, which provided one of the most thrilling races of the day. Ordeal fought on well in the straight and had With You well covered at the post where she had half a length to spare.

The Reta Peter Handicap was the first leg of the on-course double, the second, the Au Revoir Handicap, being won .by Surie Queen in a good finish with Pagliacci. The Ordeal-Surie Queen doubles combination paid £237 12s 6d for £l.

The racing throughout the day was full of interest, although two events were roughly run; One of the highlights was the win of Court Out in the New Zealand Trotting Stakes. She is trained and was driven by M. Holmes, who also won with Patchwork and First Belle.

The meeting was held ih perfect weather before a satisfactory attendance. The track was in good order.

Totalisator investments amounted to £82.207 ss, including £13.164 5s on doubles. There was no similar meeting last season. TWfakte Hall’s Win Twinkite Hall finished brilliantly over the last 100 yards - to catch Blue Emperor and beat that horse narrowly in the Williams Handicap. Robert < Dillon, which was pulled up. Bon Ton and Zanv lost ground at the start. Johnny Guitar led out. but at the end of two furlongs Coincident worked clear. At this stage Fourth Edition broke and Bon Ton and Cantain Free met trouble. Bonny Starlet took the lead with two furlongs left and turned for home ahead of Coincident. Ice Drift. Johnny Guitar, Blue Emperor. Seafield Lad. Twinkle

Hall, Con Scott and Our Tim. Blue Emperor raced past Bonny Starlet inside the furlong and then Twinkle Hall put in her claim. She finished boldly and got up in the last stride to win by a head going away. Con Scott came home well for third, a length be-/ hind Blue Emperor, with Bonny Starlet tiring to fourth a length and a half back, half a neck in front of Our Tim. Then there was a nose to Johnny Guitar and a head to Captain Free, with Seafield Lad. which did not get a run. Ice Drift. Fourth Edition and Coincident following.

Ordeal ShoWs Speed Ordeal, after pacing early and breaking, showed speed to lead over the last three furlongs of the Reta Peter Handicap. Au Fait pulled her way up to Ebony Scott at the mile post, with Rockn Roll joining her at the six furlongs. Au Fait could not foot it with Ordeal at the three furlongs. Ordeal led Au Fait and- Moon Boy racing to the straight, with Ebony Scott, See All, Coronet Lass, With You, Medetta. Indiana and Mighty Brigade handy. Once into the straight Ordeal had her opponents well covered and she won with something in hand by half a length. With You finished strongly from the middle of the field to take second place without looking like beating Ordeal. Moon Boy battled on gamely for third after covering fextra ground in the early stages of the race.

Medetta finished well aftef being a long way from the leaders in the early part of the race, to take fourth, a nose in front of Indiana, with a neck to Mighty Brigade, a head to Dalgelia, a head to Ebonv Scott, a length and a half th Au Fait and a head to Coronet Lass. Medetta was relegated to fifth for breaking and Indiana was promoted.
