Indoor Bowls CANTERBURY OPEN TOURNAMENT

Surprise By Wigram Dynamos

The Wigram Dynamo club, playing its first year of competition bowls, was the surprise winner of the Canterbury Indoor Bowling Association's open tournament held yesterday. Of the, 95 rinks entered, there were 25 qualifiers for post-section play, the first upset of which was the defeat in the quarter-final of V. Marshall's South Island champion rink. Quarter-final results: R. Colley 7. N. Berry 3; K. Little 13. V. Jackson 4; J. McFarlane 12. V. Marshall 7; D. Rennie 11. T. Hunter 9. Semi-finals: Rennie 9. McFarlane 7; Colley 7. Little 5. Final* Colley 13. Rennie 9. In the final Rennie was 4 up after two heads. Colley gaining one with his last shot at the third head. Rennie gained two at the fourth, but his third burnt the fifth head to make it 6-3. Colley staged a fourpoint recovery in the sixth to take the lead, and another burnt head cost Rennie two in the seventh. Colley, with one at the eighth and ninth, Ipd in-6, and R*nnie, with clever driving, scored three in the ne't two heads to make the score 10-9 In the final head Colley's rink bowled superbly, scoring three for their win.
