(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 14.
During their air journey from Australia this evening, the members of the British Isles Rugby team flew through a long and severe electrical storm. At Whehnuapai a crowd of about 100 people gave them a warm welcome, to which they responded w’ith a song at the foot of the plane gangway. One of the first off the plane was R. Dau’son, the captain. He was laden down with the team’s official mascot, a stuffed lion, a bulging briefcase, and other personal gear. The team was met by Messrs G. A. Brown (president of the New Zealand Rugby Union), C. S. Hogg (chairman of the N.Z.R.U. council), and T. H. Pearce, who is a member of the N.Z.R.U. council, the Auckland union chairman, and manager of the New-’ Zealand team for the tests. Customs formalities were dispensed with in a matter of minutes, and the party moved into a reception lounge. • where they faced a battery of press, television and newsreel cameras. One of the first to meet Dawson was W. J. Whineray, the All Black captain.
