£70.000 FOR CHARITY
(N Z Press Association— Copy ng ht 1 SYDNEY, June 11. An 86-year-old Irishman, who worked as a barrel-niaker when he came to Australia In 1892, has willed £70,000 to charity. The man, Mr Andrew Sinclair, who lives with his wife in the beach suburb of North Bondi, said today he had saved all his life to accumulate “more than £100,000,” according to the “Sydney Sun” “We haven’t any relatives left, so we will leave the money to deserving charities,” he said. “Before I retired many years ago, I began buying small properties, improved them, and sold at a small profit. During the depression, in the thirties, I had 25 cottages, returning about £6O a week ” Mr Sinclair said he later sold out, and bought shares in big companies. He will leave £50,000 to the Sydney suburbah Waverley Council to build a hostel for elderly people; £lO,OOO to the Methodist phurch; £7OOO to a memorial horned and £3OOO. to St. Luke’s Hospital, Darlinghurst, Sydney.
