Last year imports of carpet wools into the United States of America from New Zealand rose from 12.8 m lb in 1957 to 32.3 m lb. The “World Wool Digest,” issued by the International Wool Secretariat, says that New Zealand wools are normally classed as apparel wools and for several years wools considered suitable for carpets have been becoming scarcer, but last season there was an. exceptionally large increase in supplies. Production of these wools (46's or coarser) amounted to nearly 50m lb—ls per cent, of the clip—compared with about 31m 1b—9.9 per cent, of the clip in the previous season.
