Favourite For Derby
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, June 2. Betting on the Derby, which had been almost negligible, spurted at the Victoria Club. London, last evening, and at the call-over on Wednesday’s race 13 horses were backed to win about £130,000. But nobody was interested in the former favourite. Saint Crespin 111. Unbacked, he was quoted at 9-1 compared with 13-2 oh Friday. His French stable companion, Princillon, which then became a clear favourite, at 5-1, for the first time, retained his position, priced at 6-1. Thymus, backed to win £14,000, became second favourite at 8-1. Prices were:—6 to 1, Princillon; 8 to 1, Thymus; 9 to 1, Saint Crespin; 10 to 1 Fidalgo, Parthia, Carnoustie and Shantung; 100 to 6, Amourrou; 20 to 1, Dan Cupid; 22 to 1. Above Suspicion; 28 to 1, Casque and Regent; 33 to 1, Reactor* 40 to 1, Arvak and New Brig; 66 to 1, Josephus and Lindrick; 200 to 1, Barbary Pirate, Beau Tudor and Rousseau’s Dream.
