Gay fair’s Race This Week

Press Association—Copyright) BRISBANE, May 27 The crack New Zealand colt, Gayfair, may not be permitted to run in the Lightning Handicap at Eagle Farm—next Saturday’s forerunner to the rich Stradbroke sprint. The Auckland Racing Club has advised the Queensland Turf Club that no Lightning Handicap entry had been received for Gay fair.
Earlier, the colt’s trainer, G. Smith, told the Queensland handicapper, Mr George Cain, that Gayfair had been entered In -Auckland for the Lightning and the Stradbroke by his father, before the horse left New Zealand.
A Queensland Turf Club spokesman said today that unless evidence of nomination »n New Zealand was produced by noon tomorrow. Gayfair would not be allowed to run. The Brisbane Cup co-favourite, and Sydney Cup runner-up, Foxmara, will run in the 12-furlong Suburban Handicap at Eagle Farm on Saturday.. He will be ridden by Mel Schumacher, who will ride the New Zealand horse, Fountainhead, in the Lightning Handicap . The Lightning Handicap, of five furlongs, will be the main lead-up race for visiting horses here for the winter racing carnival. The Brisbane jockey. Andy Tindall will ride the New Zealand snrinter, Second Earl, in the Lightning Handicap. In the Stradbroke Ha n dicapBrisbane Cup double. Fountainhead and Belfast were backed for £5OOO yesterday by a New Zealander. The trainer. Ernie Fellows, is giving Fountainhead an unorthodox three swims a day, but on appearances Fountainhead is thriving on the treatment. Fellows said that Fountainhead would tackle the Lightning Handicap without a previous gallop at Eagle Farm.
