.Longest Cross-Country Flight From Taieri (Neio Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, May 25. ’ The longest cross-country glider flight from the Taieri aerodrome was achieved yesterday afternoon by Dr. Len Thompson, when he flew 70 miles along- the coast to land at the Hilderthorpe airfield in North Otago Dr • Thompson first soared to more than three miles above the Taieri Valley. He was using oxygen and could have gone higher, but icing on his canopy forced him to descend and he then glided to Hilderthorpe.
