Basketball INTERCEPTION OF SHOTS AT GOAL

Favourable Hearing To Request (New Zealand Press Association) NAPIER. May 15. A request that New Zealand basketbailers try out interception of shots at goal was received from the acting-secretary of the World Federation of Women’s Basketball and Netball Associations at the annual council meeting of the New Zealand Basketball Association, which concluded in Napier yesterday. The request received a favourable hearing from delegates. The council’s secretary (Miss W. K. Coatsworth, of Christchurch), outlined the meaning of the rule, which gives certain defenders the right to intercept a shot at goal. Demonstration games are to be arranged at the tournaments at Southland and Nelson this season.

WORLD FEDERATION MEETING

Australia Suggested By N.Z. Association (New Zealand Press Association) NAPIER. May 15. The suggestion that the inaugural meeting of the World Federation of Women's Basketball and Netball Associations in July, 1960, be held in Australia (with approval of that country), or alternatively London, is to be forwarded to the federation by the New Zealand Basketball Association. . , This was decided at the concluding session of the association’s council in Napier yesterday.
