1300 Fellowships In Year (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. Mav 12. More than 1300 fellowshin? were awarded bv the World Health Organisation in 1957-58. said Miss Lily Turnbull, regional nursing adviser for the organisation in the western Pacific region. She was addressing the international studv conference of nurses sponsored by the South Pacific regjonal group of the International Council of Nurses, in Wellington. Students from 123 countries or territories now undertook their study in 81 countries. Miss Turnbull said there had been marked progress in the establishment of nursing schools in the western Pacific, both at basic and post basic level, and an improvement and strengthening of nursing programmes. The main objective of the nursing programme had been directed toward education and training in nursing and midwifery, both at the professional and auxiliary levels.
Among the fields in which the World Health Organisation is active she listed malaria control and eradication, communicable diseases, environmental sanitation. education and training, and medical research.
