The chief of the new United • Nations Special Fund has recom- ; mended that it start work bv spending 7.550.000 dollars on 13 survey or training projects to • foster economic growth in 16 countries. Some of the projects will take five years. Up to April 10, Governments have applied formally for 75 projects to cost 81,081,000 dollars and given preliminary information about another 53. It is estimated that the fund will get 27.000.000 dollars in Government contribu- ! lions to spend this year. The biggest project calls for ; the fund to spend 1.500.000 dol'ars in four years, sending teachers. teaching equipment. and books to schools of architecture s and engineering at the Middle East Technical University now j being built up in Ankara. Turkey. The Special Fund came into s being last January 1 by action of the General Assembly. It aims s to finance projects that will pros mote the economic growth of • w under-deVeloped countries by afi* tracting foreign investment.
