General Challe, last night warned French Algerians that the Army would not tolerate violent demonstrations. British United Press reported. He issued a communique after “vengeance” attacks on Moslems in the eastern town of Constantine.
Official reports said that 14 Moslems were treated in hospital for injuries suffered in attacks by French Algerians in Constantine on Monday night. The attacks were carried out by a crowd of French settlers enraged by terrorist attackers who killed two youths and a 16-year-old girl and kidnapped another girl. The French High Command last night formally issued a denial of charges by the rebels that French troops slaughtered 112 civilians last week at a village in the Aures mountains. The charge was made on Tuesday by the rebel high command in Tunis. The denial said the facts of the case were that a band of rebels was attacked by French troops in the area last week-end. and 32 rebels were killed in the fighting. No civilians were involved, the statement said.
