21 CHARGES OF THEFT
Three-Year Prison Sentence

Denis Clifton Tuck, aged 44, a former Wellington land agent, was sent to prison for three years and three months when he appeared for sentence before Mr J. B. Thompson, S.M., in the Wellington Magistrate’s Court today. He had been convicted last week on 21 charges of theft from clients and two breaches of the Bankruptcy Act. Tuck, who was defended by Mr C. G. Pottinger, had pleaded guilty to all charges. The prosecutor (Mr K. O. said at the initial hearing that Tuck had failed to keep proper books, and had used deposit money paid in by clients for his own private purposes. More than £6OOO of his clients’ money could not be accounted for. He had also obtained £750 from clients by promising immediate possession of a certain block of houses when he had no authority to do
