CALVES SENT BY AIR
200 Head From Blenheim (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 16. More than 200 calves have been carried from Blenheim to the North Island since Easter, in what is believed to be the first air movement of run cattle in New Zealand. The carriage of stud stock by air has become commonplace in this country but, till now, the transporting by air of run cattle has not been considered justified. The recent drought in Mark borough depressed stock prices to such an extent that Mr J. A Thomson, of Ward, decided to send a trial shipment to the Wanganui district. The experiment was a success, and since then five loads have been carried on behalf of Awatere farmers. The animals, which travelled well, were unloaded at Parapfr raumu. The lasi load was carried this week, as further air-freighttnf of calves to the north is at present unlikely, because of the improvint market in the South Island.
