DAMAGED ROAD SIGNS

Three youths had given themselves up and admitted damaging road signs in the Lyndhurst, district, on the Ashburton-Methven main highway, said the Automobile Association (Canterbury) resident service officer in Ashburton (Mr A. J. Langston) yesterday. A few weeks ago, Mr Langston found that considerable damage had been done to sign posts—some erected only a few weeks. The youths are being made to pay for the cost of replacing the signs. Mr Langston said the signs were valued at about £lO. There had been no more vandalism to his knowledge, since this incident. Mr Langston said that there had been no trouble with the re(cent rains, but he had not yet visited all the districts. There was a possibility that some signs had been washed away at Boyers stream, where the bridge approach had been washed out.
