OFF-SIDE PLAY AND RUCKING
Press Reports Upheld (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 14 The press were not to blame for the recent misunderstanding over off-side play and rucking, said the chairman of the Wellington Rugby Union management committee (Mr J. N. Millard) at tonight’s committee meeting. The blame for all the misunderstanding had been laid by some people at the door of the press, he said. The people who caused the confusion were those who would talk about the man jumping or stepping over the man on the ground with the ball. It was this concentration on the man who was definitely not offside that caused all the confusion.
The president of the Wellington Referees’ Association (Mr H. B Simons): The press were not wrong in what they reported on the New Zealand referees’ conference.
