First-Day Red Cross Covers

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. April 14. Official first-day covers for the special Red Cross stamp to be issued in June will be placed on sale by the Red Cross tomorrow. The chairman of the Auckland branch (Mr R. Watson) said today that these are the only official ones sponsored by the Red Cross. Other printed envelopes which had already appeared in some shops had no official recognition. The covers will cost 2d each. “They will be eagerly sought by philatelists and already inquiries have come from overseas,’’ he said. The Government has announced that the special stamps will be placed on sale on June 3. This year marks the centenary of the founding of the Red Cross by Henri Dunant.
