WORLD SHEARING RECORD

Champion Attacks Criticisms “The Press" Special Service WHANG AREI, April 13. Criticisms of the validity of Mr Trevor Brough’s world record of 501 sheep shorn in one day were attacked at a presentation function at Whangarei. when Mr Brough was presented with a hand shearing set on behalf of a stock and station agency firm. Mr Brough said criticism had been made that he had not caught his own sheep. His record had been set unpaced, and he had dragged all 501 sheep across the board from the catching pen. The previous record, set by Mr Godfrey Bowen, was created in a “chute” shed, with the shearer merely having to flip the sheep over a couple of feet from the pen, said Mr Brough. He had shifted far more weight than had Mr Bowen, he claimed.
