Butter

Sir. —Australian wages are twice as high as British. If Australia can do anything to export butter at a reasonable price well and good. New Zealand wages are also much higher than British yet butter to the consumer is heavily subsidised here. The other day it was reported the United States was exporting surplus non-fat milk powder to Japan at a low price. That does not seem to suit New Zealand either. * Perhaps all the tears that are being shed about poorer countries are crocodile tears. —Yours, etc., E.N. April 12, 1959.
