PARADE OF FASHIONS

Entertainment By

Chamber

An appreciative audience, as much composed of men as of women, viewed a sleep-wear to ball sown fashion parade at the Winter Garden last evening when the Canterbury Chamber of Com merce entertained more than 4(M’ members and delegates who have been attending the annual con ference of Associated Chambers Headache bands were worn by many of the mannequins, even when showing bed-time fashions New colour notes introduced were wine trimmings on filmy pink nightgowns, violet and shocking pink teamed together in street wear, scarlet trews stopped by a pink shirt and divided by a turquoise cummerbund, and scarlet hose with a rug-weight tartan sports skirt. Other new fashion features were a Westernised evening sari of strapless design, wrapped round the figure and made from glittering smudge-patterned lame, and a high felt hat with its swathe of soft materials ending in a tuck-in cravat at the neck. The gowns shown were lent by Beath and Company Ltd Included in the programme was a short burlesque item re-enacting an early meeting of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce as it might have occurred 100 years ago. The players were members of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Mr J Roy Smith (president of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce) and Mrs Smith (convener

of the women’s committee) received members, delegates and their wives.

Mrs Smith wore a dinner gown of black net banded with satin and made with a short crinoline skirt.
