Father Remanded On Assault Charge
(Hew Zeuuino Pfftst Association ROTORUA, April 13.
At the request of the police Arthur Epapara, aged 33, married, of Tikitere, was remanded in custody until tomorrow when he appeared before Mr G. J. Donne. S.M., in the Magistrate's Court at Rotorua this morning charged with assaulting his son, aged one year 11 months.
Senior-Sergeant P. A. Byrne said the circumstances of the charge were such that “the helpless infant is at present in hospital and it is possible more serious charges will follow.” Mr Byrne said he would oppose any application for bail on the grounds that there was reason to believe Epapara's wife and children would be endangered if he returned home. No application was made.
