COMMERCIAL Sharemarket Firm But Quiet

Markets were firm but quiet on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday. Government stocks were in demand, some issues being wanted at 2s 6d above last week’s prices, but few sellers appeared. Bank of N.S.W., 8.H.P., Fletcher Holdings and Wilsons Cement (in a late sale on Friday) all sold above previous Christchurch prices. Coles and Woolworths each sold 2d down on the last local business.
