‘ROW’ BETWEEN SERVICES

Report Denied In Australia CANBERRA, April 13. Week-end reports of a threatened split between the Royal Australian Air Force and the Army over the use of the new Hercules transport aircraft were denied in a joint statement issued in Canberra today and signed by the Chief of Genera] Staff (LieuteantGeneral Sir Ragnar Garratt) and the Chief of the Air Staff (Air Marshall Sir Frederick Scherger). The joint statement said: “There is no truth in the allegations of a threatened split between the Army and the Air Force commands over the operation of the new Hercules transport aircraft. “We are unaware of any ‘row’ between our respective services and there is certainly no ‘row’ between us personally.”

The statement said that two of the aircraft had already been made available for use in an Army exercise planned for the next three months in Queensland. “We have no hesitation in declaring that the good feeling and co-operation existing between the Army and the Air Force is today more cordial and of a higher degree than it has ever been in the past,” the statement added.
