EXAMINATION OF COMPENSATE

Failure In Stakes (From Our Own Reporter > BLENHEIM. April 12. A veterinary examination of Compensate, the beaten favourite in the Blenheim Stakes at the Marlborough Racing Club’s meeting yesterday, was ordered by the stipendiary Steward (Mr H. B. Lorigan). A request was also lodged by the owner and trainer of the horse that a swab be taken and this was done. After the examination, the veterinary surgeon reported that he found the horse to be very distressed after the race but he could find no physical disability. The secretary of the club. Mr G. S. Fuller, said today W. D. Skelton, who rode Compensate, said that evening that he felt that the horse was in difficulties about five furlongs from the end. He said that when Graewyn went ahead about three furlongs from home he gave Compensate two cuts with the whip to try and gather in the leader but he [Collapsed at once and dropped .back to the rear of the field. Compensate finished about 75 yards behind the second last horse. Hannibal.
