Story Of Lieutenant P. R. Honton (New Zeaiana Press Association) WANGANUI, April 12 The news of Sub-Lieutenant P R. Hon ton's promotion to lieutenant at the almost unbelievable age of 64 brings to mind an ofttold story of Percy Honton when he was in the chief petty officers’ mess in H.M.N.Z.S. Philomel in the' early 1950’5. An engineroom artificer arriving back at Philomel after his first trip at sea was “blowing his trumpet” on his scant and newlyacquired knowledge of the Navy’s cruiser, H.M.N.Z.S Bellona. “Bellona this and Bellona that,” went on the artificer until Mr Honton. in his quiet. Inoffensive way, interrupted with a correcting statement. “What do you know about Bellona, you haven’t been to sea foi 10 years.” came the cutting reply “Listen, sonny,” replied Mi Honton. “I don’t mean this Bellona Or the one before that, bul the one before that.” Mr Honton served in the firsi Bellona, during World War I.
