Creeks Running High After Heavy Rain

Heavy rain fell in some North Canterbury districts yesterday morning, and rain was again falling last evening. With a good deal of surface water lying, and quick run-off from the hills, flooding in low-lying areas is expected if the rain persists.

Creeks in the Rangiora, Loburn, and Oxford areas are running high, and traffic proceeded with caution over the Eyre bridge, on the OxfordWaimakariri Gorge road, as one end of the bridge had sunk.

Heavy rain was falling at Darfield last night, but at Springfield the rain was only light. West of Christchurch there was showery weather throughout the day, after heavy early-morning rain.
