People Celebrate Royal Wedding

The Prince and Princess today rested at home in a Tokyo suburb.
Long files of thousands of wellwishers went to the open plaza in front of the Imperial Palace to sign the registry book as their way of offering congratulations. In Kyoto, the old capital of Japan, there was another book for this purpose, and travellers from the town and country went to put their names in it.
Gifts from within Japan and from abroad continued to arrive. The Imperial Household Board has not yet been able to make a complete list. It is proposed that monetary gifts will be used to assist physically handicapped children. The Emperor already has made a donation of 1.000.000 yen (about £1000) for this purpose. A Marxist student who tried to attack Crown Prince Akihito and Princess Michiko during their wedding procession was held tn a Tokyo gaol today while police investigated his political background. Police said the student. Kensetsu Nakayama, aged 19, faced a charge of criminal assault. United Press International reported. According to police. Nakayama said a few days ago that he wanted to kill the Crown Prince.
