U.S. GENERALS ATTACKED

‘Lacking Common Sense’ (Rec. 8 p.m.) MOSCOW, April 11. The Soviet Defence Minister. Marshal Rodion Malinovsky, today complained of the “irresponsible” statement of United States military leaders, who “boasted of America’s power to crush the Soviet Union.” He said: “They do not frighten us. The time when the United States was invulnerable is over,” he said in a “Pravda” article. “These statements of the highranking officers of the United States should be a cause of worry to the Americans themselves.” he said. “Sober people in the United States cannot fail to realise the danger ensuing from such incendiary, reckless speeches for the United States and the whole world. “Underrating of the capability of the Soviet Union to strike a retaliatory blow at an aggressor and over-confidence in their overseas possibilities, in particular their strategic ballistic rockets prove that the United States military leaders lack common sense.” he said.

Marshal Malinovsky attacked the “wild pronouncements” of General Nathan Twining, Admiral Arleigh Burke, General Thomas White and the United States Defence Secretary. Mr McElroy. “The unseemly utterances of American brasshats, replete with various insulting jibes against the Soviet Union, cannot but cause surprise, since they are not conducive to creating an atmosphere such as would promote the success of the coming (summit) negotiations.”
