GOLF AND REST

Dr. Graham’s Final Day In Christchurch

Dr. Billy Graham spent his last day in New Zealand yesterday playing nine holes of golf at the Kaiapoi Golf Club and resting at his hotel. Accompanied by the Rev. Joseph Blinco, Mr Dan Piatt, Mr Cliff Barrows, and two Christchurch men, Mr J. Calder (a member of the crusade executive) and Mr N W. Rowntree (district commissioner of the Inland Revenue Department), Dr. Graham and his companions had the golf course to themselves. Dr. Graham would not comment on the results, but according to the other golfers he was not up to his usual form. Asked for an outline of the game, Mr Blinco kept his comments to: “My own score was taken by Cliff Barrows, and I am convinced he must have been using hymn numbers instead of my actual score. The next time I have a hymn book printed the numbers will not exceed 10.” The match was played at Kaiapoi to enable Dr. Graham to have privacy. The arrangements were made by Mr Rowntree, who supplied the clubs.
