SWISS INTEREST IN N.Z.
Trade And Tourist Prospects Switzerland is very interested in increasing trade and tourism with New. Zealand according to Mr Alex »J. Applebaum newlyappointed New Zealand. Australian and Pacific Islands sales manger for Swissair, who has just returned to Sydney from a familiarisation trip to Switzerland. Mr Applebaum was formely with T.E.A.L. in Australia for nine years. While Mr Applebaum was overseas many Swiss business and industrial leaders closely questioned him about the potential offered by New Zealand. So great was interest in the two Pacific countries many Swiss were anxious to migrate. New Zealand particularly attracted the Swiss, said Mr Applebaum, because the scenery closely resembled that of Switzerland’s, especilally around the southern lakes and Alps. Many of the people who wanted to make their homes in New Zealand were instrument makers and precision engineers, and would doubtless prove a boon to local industry.
