Harriers INCREASE IN LEVIES

Higher Senior Fees ' Levies for senior runners in Christchurch, Timaru and-Grey-mouth were increased at a meeting of the Canterbury CrossCountry Management Committee last evening. The levy for local senior runners has increased from 10s to 12s fid and has risen to 8s fid for seniors from Timaru and Greymouth. The Is fid fee for all runners not registered through a track club was retained.

“I think to be on the safe side we should put the seniors’ levy up to 12s 6d,” said the secretary (Mr N. G. Hattaway).. “I think it is a retrograde step if we cannot send our team away fully paid to the national championships. We have to budget for a full team,” said the chairman (Mr A. Memory). The treasurer (Mr R. E. Coleman) reported: “Last year we had an excess of income over expenditure of £2B. I think this year, having the same levy we should have another £lO from colts becoming juniors and we should have an excess of about £40.” As there would not be the women's travelling expenses the excess would probably increase to £7O and then, allowing for unforeseen expenditure it would be about £5O. There would be additional travelling expenses to the national titles this year, he said. “I would think that rather than increase levies this year, if we are stuck for finance we should cut down on the number of runners paid to travel with the Canterbury team or ask the emergency to contribute,” he said.

The levies for senior men will be 12s 6d, for juniors 7s fid and for colts 4s. The levies for senior men in Timaru and Greymouth will be 8s fid for seniors and 4s for juniors. The levies for women remain the same as last year at 7s fid for seniors and 4s for juniors. Programme The following programme for the season was tentatively adopted: May 2, University relay; May 16, Kennett Cup; June 1, Anglican block relay; June 13, Olympic road race; June 20, Oamaru-Timaru centennial relay; June 27, club championships; July 11, Halswell race; July 25. Canterbury Championships at Timaru; August 8, New Zealand championships. Bridle Path race; August 15, Holloway Memorial event; August 29, TemukaTimaru race, South Island Junior championships, September 12, Akaroa race; September 19, Kaia-poi-Christehurch event; October 3, Greymouth relay. “There is no official word that August 8 is the date of the New Zealand championships. In all probability that is the date to be submitted to the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association,” said Mr Hattaway.
