Club’s Inquiry To Board
Information on the status of a player who had been selected for New Zealand but who had not been able to play because of injury, was sought in a letter from the Papanui club received at last evening’s meeting of the Canter-
The board decided to refer the matter to the New Zealand Council, asking if the player could be regarded as a Kiwi. In response to a letter from the New Zealand Council asking for presidential nominations, the board decided to forward the name of the present holder of the office, Mr J. Watson, The secretary (Mr J. Machirus) said that remits for the New Zealand council’s annual meeting
The secretary (Mr J. Machirus) said that remits for the New Zealand council’s annual meeting were due in Auckland on March 17. After considerable discussion, it was decided to forward a remit on the scrum law, moved by Mr G. Blazey, as follows:—‘‘That the, scrum law be altered to allow for the ball to be hooked by the fourth foot only, and that the prop forward be allowed to follow the ball in from the half-back.”
Speaking to the motion Mr L. Huston said it was the international referees who should be showing the lead as they Were not enforcing the law as the rule book provided. The meeting confirmed the recommendation from the annual general meeting that the senior championship begin on April 4. Nominations for senior teams will close on Thursday, March 26. Other open grade football will begin on Saturday, April 18. and nominations fOr these grades will close on Monday, April 13. . The following committees were elected for the season:— Grounds: Mr E. Claridge (convener). Postponement: Messrs L. R. Huston, M. Pahi and D. C. Wilson. Match: Messrs M. Pahi and: D. C. Wilson. Publicity: Mr G. Blazey (convener). Uniform custodian: Mr A. E. Clark.
