STUDY TOUR OF DOMINION BY U.S. ROTARY PARTY
Six young men from Canada and the United States, who are making a month's study tour of New Zealand on Rotary overseas travel awards, arrived in Christchurch yesterday afternoon. All under 25, they are an airline company passenger agent, a dairyfarmer, a newspaper reporter, a clerk, a district scout executive, and a bank trainee. Led by Dr. Lyman Partridge, the party arrived at Auckland on February 24 in the Orsova.
On arrival yesterday the party was met by members of the Christchurch Rotary Club, who took individual members to their homes and who will today and tomorrow show each of the visitors any particular aspect of interest in the city which they may wish to see. Each member of the party, selected gs potential community leaders, to qualify for the trip had to submit an essay on how their individual occupations would best serve?’ their community. Their only obligation when they return home will be to give talks at various functions on what they have observed of New Zealand and its way of life. Dr. Partridge said the group had had a wonderful time and had spent a very busy period visiting schools, universities, social services, industry, hospitals, courts of law and many other apects of national life. “We have learned many things and are getting a very good impression of New
Zealanders and this delightful country.” He said that the arrangements in Christchurch had brought the only time on their tour that members of the group had been parted. Usually they studied and compared notes together. All members will meet again this evening when they will be guests of the Christchurch Round Table. The party has already seen much of the North Island. At Lower Hutt they attended a Rotary conference and after visiting Wellington flew to Dunedin last Sunday. ■, On Friday the party will reassemble and fly from Harewood to Hamilton. Visits will be made to Rotorua and Palmerston North and they will leave Auckland on March 21 for the United States.
