NEW UNIVERSITY LECTURER

Engineering School Post

The new lecturer in mechanical engineering at the, University of Canterbury (Mr C. A. Satterthwaite) was formerly investigating the utilisation of geothermal steam for the Hydro-design Division of the Ministry of Works, Wellington. Mr Satterthwaite, who arrived in Christchurch yesterday, was assistant mechanical engineer with the department. His field at the university will be drawing and design and the principles of mechanical engineering, but he is keenly interested in aerodynamics and hopes "if I am very lucky” to be able to devote some time to that subject. . “Aerodynamics is my first love,” said Mr Satterthwaite. He has written several works on the subject, particularly to do with sailing, and two of them, “Sailing Hull Design” and ‘‘The Well Tempered Sailing Craft,” have been published. Mr Satterthwaite lectured in the Royal Air Force Operational Training Command in 1934 and 1935. He graduated Bachelor of Science from the University College, London, in 1951. He is also a graduate member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and an Associate of the Engineers’ Guild.

He lectured at Wellington Technical College in 1957 and 1958.
