AUSTRALIAN PLAY

N.Z. Tour Soon

The long awaited New Zealand tour of Mr R. Lawlor’s world famous Australian play, •'Summer of the Seventeenth Doll.” would take place in May, June and July this year, said the general manager of the New Zealand Players’ Theatre Trust Board (Mr K. B. O'Brien) yesterday The presentation of the play would bring to a successful conclusion negotiations which had taken place during the last two years, he said. In association with Hie Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust and. the J. C, Williamson Theatres Ltd.,' the New Zealand Players will promote and manage the tour which will open in Wellington on May 7 and which will include visits to nearly every other centre usually included in the Players’ itineraries. New Zealand theatregoers will see the present Australian production by John Sumner who was responsible for the original Melbourne production as well as the subsequent productions in Australia, London and New York, said Mr O’Brien.

Included in the cast Is Miss Ethel Gabriel as Emma Leech, the role she has played in nearly 1000 performances throughout the world and which she is playing in the film at present being made in Australia.
