“BISCUIT WEEK” FOR GUIDES
Movement Raises Funds
It will be “biscuit week” for New Zealand’s 26,000 Girl Guides and Brownies from March 7 to 14. “Biscuit week" is the Girl Guides' counterpart of the Scouts’ “bobs-for-jobs” venture, by which the movement raises funds for itself. The guides wili sell to the public specially-made biscuits packed in attractive cellophane wrappers. Last year, they disposed of 350,000 packets—this year they hope to sell 450.000.
The profit will go directly to Girl Guide funds, and will be used for the further progress of guiding throughout the Dominion. The idea of ‘‘biscuit week” was borrowed a few years ago from the American Girl Scouts and the Girl Guides of Canada, where it has been a long-established custom.
