Grivas To Meet Makarios

(Rec. 10 p.m.) NICOSIA, March 3. A secret rendezvous between Archbishop Makarios and Colonel George Grivas, the Greek Cypriot underground leader, is “imminent,” according to Greek Cypriot sources. The sources said that during his talk with the Governor, Sir Hugh Foot, yesterday, the Archbishop promised to try to see Colonel Grivas and discuss with him the British amnesty offering him a safe conduct to Greece.

Large crowds gathered at St. Nicholas Church in Famagusta, at midnight last night to welcome back to the town seven of the 80 political prisoners released yesterday.
