Matua’s Engine Trouble

The Pacific Island passenger and cargo ship Matua berthed at Lyttelton on Saturday night with her starboard engine disabled. As it was difficult to handle the vessel on one engine, the Matua was berthed at the Oil Wharf for the night and was moved to her berth at No. 7 west, with the aid of the tug, yesterday morning. The fault was detected several days ago, but as long as the engine was kept running, little harm was done and the Matua made good time to Lyttelton. Once stopped, however, the engine could not (be re-started. The engine stopped outside the moles at Lyttelton. Repair work on th* angina wu itarted yaetteday.
