First Open Show The first South Island open show for dogs of one breed was conducted by the Canterbury Dachshund Club In the Industries Fair building on Saturday. A large entry of 66 dachshunds was received. The judge was Miss P. Gorrie, of Auckland. Commenting on the standard of the dogs presented, Miss Gorrie said that there was high quality in the younger stock, which should be felt in the show ring in the future. It was in the younger stock that she found the best in the show, nominating Mrs Piper’s imported bitch. Wallbutt Wispa, which was also the best puppy to the show. Results:— Nursery Stakes.—Mrs J. Goodwin’s Waldman von Heilden. Open champion and lady owners’ stakes: Mrs E. Slade’s Ch VodeD Donna. Brace stakes: Mrs Cantwell’s Black and Tans. Breeders’ stakes: E. J. Fuller's Enterprise Californian. Nonbreeders’ stakes: Mrs E. Cantwell’s Aysdorn Black Zlmon (imp.). Gentleman owners: A. Woodlock’s Brenva Red Empress. Best Smooth Standard. Mrs Piper’s Wallbutt Wispa. Best any other variety: F. E. Stanbridge and Mrs Stanbridge’s Ch Kilchrist Pee Gee. Best smooth-coated miniature and best miniature: J. D. Ward and Mrs Ward’s Pepita of Ohoka. Best long-haired miniature: Mrs E. Slade's Brenva Crib. Best Junior in show: E. J. Fuller’s Enterprise Californian. Best opposite sex puppy in show: Mrs J. Goodwin’s Waldman von Heiden.
