THIRD SUCCESSIVE WIN OVER HURDLES

Brig O*CaUy completed ■ double for the Donedin Joekey Chib’s antamn meeting by winning the Allenton Hurdles at Wingatui bn Saturday. This waa Brig t/Cally* third successive win as a hurdler for bls Invercargill owner-trainer, Mr W. E. Haslett. W. J. Hillis had the Callander gelding well placed in a close running field after half a mile. He waited until the home turn was near before starting his final run —one that the others had no chance of matching. Brig OCally won at his leisure by two and a half lengths from Native King, a strong finisher. Native King picked up several lengths from the half mile and got up in the last few strides to peg The Trek back to third. The Trek was responsible for most of the pacemaking but was not allowed free play in the lead, Persia and Gay King joining him at the half mile. Arabian Chief battled on under a vigorous ride for fourth halt a length behind The Trek. Gay King weakened to fifth and Persia to sixth. King’s Lace fell near the half mile. - Chief Note sprawled badly on landing Over the second last flight All-the-W»y win Our Heritage made all the running for a decidve win ta the Novice Handicap, tor which he wm third favourite. Thi, was hl, reeond race for his Wingatui owner-trainer, Mr E. White. His first wa, ta the corresponding race on the first day, when he finished fourth.Melodic looked a. if h. would run Our Heritage Close going to the furlong, but file latter had the better finish, Snd It gave him a rather comfortable victory by half a length. Melodic disputed the lead from the half mile. He was one of the long shots ta a big field and paid £7 10s 0d for a place. Master Ascot was another half length back third. He had the run of the race. Maisie. the second favourite, made slight Improvement for fourth just ahead of Rllbob and the favourite, Gambol.

Gambol ran past two or three horses from the home turn, but her finish lacked dash. Her finish ta the corresponding race a week earlier had been much stronger. The others behind Gambol were beaten off. Fair Eden did best of them. Two three-year-olds from Southland, Barrister and Page Boy, had the finish of the Valley Handicap to themaelves. Page Boy set a scorching pace In the lead from the half mile to the home turn, but Barrister kept up a determined run ta the straight and got up to win by half a length. The winner and runner-up did not run on the first day of the meet*nfiarrlster won her first race at Gore on February 7. Mr H. G.

Wallis’s Callander filly was four Places back alongside the favourite half way through the race and kept up a determined run from toe home turn.

It was late when she reached a, challenging position, but once up to Page Boy there was no doubt about the outcome of the race.

Antarctic Flight; made it an aHSouthland finish by getting un for third two lengths back. This three-year-old Neptune filly followed Barrister almost from toe start.

Barrister was followed in by her stablemate Brummel, which was in a gap of three lengths. Ocean Melody, after leading early, then trailing, weakened to fifth, just beating Abou Ben Adhem. Vailimia and Rayspar were the best of toe others. ■ Rayspar waa favourite. He waa struggling to hold his position halfway through,th. race.

Won Unchallenged Garrob led for the last seven furlongs for an easy win ta the Mosglel Handicap. He opened up a lead of three lengths coming to the home turn and won by four lengths from Gaytana, which tried gamely under 9-0 to bridge the gap ta the straight. Garrob la a three-year-old Super gelding ta the Invercargill stable of T. E. Pankhurst. who prepared Barrister to win the previous race. He waa sixth ta one of the hack sprints on the lint day at . the meeting*. Gaytana ran up to join Dark Beau in second position going to. the half mile. She waa a clear aebond on the home turn but she found the task of giving Garrob 2Slb and a start too great. The Era. winner of the corresponding race on the first day of the meeting, kept up a solid run from the home turn for third, but she waa three lengths back. Barana, one of the Ught-welghts, Improved two of three places from the turn tor fourth, just beattag Marsana. Lucky Time, a Riccarton repreJ aentative, waa eleventh.
