ATTACK ON U.S. ADMIRAL

Burke “Modern Cannibal”

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, February 25.

Moscow Radio yesterday attacked Admiral Arleigb Burke, the United States Chief of Naval Operations, as a “modern cannibal in admiral's uniform” and a “dangerous maniac with an obsession to kill and annihilate.” The radio, in an Englishlanguage broadcast, said Admiral Burke gave vent to his “chronic and apparently incurable mania" again last Friday when he told the Charleston Chamber of Commerce that the United States had unlimited facilities for destroying the Soviet Union. Referring to evidence given by Admiral Burke before a Senate committee last, month, the radio said: “Admiral Burke,is not content with the murder of individuals. He wants to see the blood of millions flowing. “As a start he would be satisfied with the slaughter of 40 per cent, of the Soviet population." Accusing certain American circles of “nurturing plans of a nuclear war,” the radio added: “Why is this dangerous maniac, this modern cannibal in admiral’s uniform, still at large?”
