ANTI-HYDATID CAMPAIGN
Waikato Farmers’
Proposal
(New Zealand Press Association) HAMILTON, February 17.
"Sufficient funds should be made available from the pool funds and the Consolidated Fund to finance the hydatids campaign. Owners of farm working dogs, and particularly shepherds, should not be asked to contribute by higher registration fees." This motion received unanimous support at a meeting in Hamilton today of the executive committee of the meat and woo! section of Waikato Federated Farmers.
The subject wa; Introduced by Mr F. C. Johnstone, deputychairman of the. New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, who said he had noticed that some of the counties were Increasing the registration fee to £l. Mr Johnstone said he thought it was a matter for a contribution from the pool funds of the industry and the Consolidated Fund, as he did not think there should be such a heavy penalty on shepherds.
Compulsion Favoured In Campaign (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Feb. 17. The opinion that a national campaign for the eradication of hydatids would not be successful unless the testing and dosing of dogs by official inspectors were made compulsory was expressed at a meeting of the Southland Provincial Hydatid Eradication Cbpnmittee today.
