FLOWER SHOW IN PARK
Preparation On Stands
Covering four acres and a half of North Hagley Park, the Canterbury Horticultural Society’s flower show this year will be the biggest ever held in Nejy Zealand or Australia.
Tents and marquees are already being set up in the park, and exhibitors will begin preparing their stands next Monday, to be ready for ' the opening by the Mayor (Mr G. Manning) on Wednesday, February 25. Whether this year’s exhibits were going to be the brightest and the best, the secretary of the society (Mr J. Frazer) could not say, yesterday, because so much still depended on the weather. Twenty-three garden clubs, an increase on the number last year, had entered, and professional entries were also good. Mr Frazer sdid. There would also be a number of exhibits by specialised societies, such as the rose, lily, and dahlia societies.
A large stand this year will be the Christchurch Beautifying Society’s prefabricated house, and a big complete rock garden will be made in the park near Victoria Lake.
Apart £rom the blooms put in by country clubs and their members, there will be exhibitors from Oamaru, Timaru, Ashburton, Leeston, Culverden, Cheviot, Woodend and Akaroa.
On the first day, the show will be open from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m., and from 10 in the morning until 10 at night on the next two days. Invalids will be specially catered for on the Thursday morning, between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., when they wilj be able to en|ter on, passes obtainable from Mr Frazer at the society’s office.
