Mr R. B. Edmonds, second secretary at the Canadian High Commissioner’s office in Wellington, is visiting the South Island. He called on the Mayor of Christchurch .yesterday morning and later visited Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln. Sir Charles Burns, a member of the Lepers’ Trust Board, who was knighted recently, was honoured b; fellow members at a recent board meeting. The chairman (Mr A. S. Geddes) welcomed Sir Charles Burns, and Dr. L. C. L. Averill proposed the board’s motion of congratulations. Sir Charles Burns thanked the members. and mentioned the outstanding’ work being done by the board in the Pacific.

Mr H. G. -Miller, of. Firestone (N-Z.) Ltd., who is undergoing medical treatment in the United States, was granted two months' leave of absence by the council of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association last evening. Mr T. R. Gibson, of Winton, was appointed assistant town clerk and accountant by the Kaiapoi Borough Council last evening.
