Cabaret Career Ends Tonia Bern, aged 28. will end her career as a cabaret singer in April and concentrate on her new role as Mrs Donald Campbell,' wife of the world’s fastest man on water, says a London correspondent Her last cabaret appearance will be in New York. She will go there with her husband, who will' be making plans for his attack on the world land speed record of 394.196 miles an hour. Miss Bern says she has always enjoyed housework—as a hobby. Now she will make it her career and sing in her spare time. Sheplans to do occasional television and recording work, and in America she will appear on the famous Ed Sullivan show. Miss Bern met Donald Campbell on November 20 last year. They married on Christmas Eve and made a trip to Belgium to see Tonia’s family in Knokke-Ie-Zoute. Now she is busy planning '‘Roundwood.” their new home in Reigate, Surrey. ,
CITY GRADUATE’S APPOINTMENT
Miss E. Balfour To Go To Brisbane Miss Ena Balfour, of Christchurch, will leave New Zealand next week to take up an appointment as a lecturer in botany at the University of Queensland in Brisbane. An old girl of St Margaret’s College, Miss Balfour graduated B.Sc. from the University of Canterbury in 1954 and took an M.Sc. degree with first-class honours in botany in 1956. She is now completing a Ph.D. in botany. For the last two years Bliss Balfour has been on the committee of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Federation of University Women.
